James Wilson Carter, 82, of Fort Worth, TX, formerly of Crossett, passed away on April 11, 2024. He was born on October 29, 1941, in Delhi, LA, to his parents, Monroe and Ollie Upshaw Carter.
James served honorably in the U.S. Army National Guard. He began his career in 1965 in Monroe, LA, then moved to Crossett where he worked as the Parts Manager for Jr. Meeks Chevrolet for over three decades.
Born with a song in his heart and a guitar in his hand, James was a man who embraced life with passion and joy. His love for music was evident as he would often be found strumming his guitar and singing old country classics.
Beyond his love for music, James had a knack for fixing up old cars, a passion he shared with his sons. Together, they would spend countless hours in his shop, tinkering and restoring vintage cars.
Enjoying the adventure of the open road, James and his wife, Jane, often embarked on road trips to see country they had never seen before while enjoying each other’s company and making lasting memories together.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of fifty-four years, Wilma “Jane” Howell Carter; and three sisters, Gladys Valudos, Alice Rainwater, and Ruby Dayberry.
He leaves behind his two sons, James Carter, Jr., and Jason Carter, both of Fort Worth, TX; along with one granddaughter, Abbigail Carter of Denton, TX; and four sisters, Helen Greer of Monroe, LA, Agnes Shelton (James) also of Monroe, Doris Haynes of Start, LA, and Mary Carter of Abita Springs, LA.
A Celebration of life Service will be held at 12:30 p.m., on Tuesday, April 16th, at Medders Funeral Home with Rev. Toby Austin, and Jason Carter, officiating followed by interment at Crossroads Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home.
